Inspired by the Pantone Colour of the Year 2017: Greenery
Colour plays a vitally important role in the world in which we live. Reds, yellows and oranges conjure up sunshine and warmth, whilst blues and greens evoke snow and ice, sea, sky and moonlight. Colour can sway thinking and cause reactions – it is an irreplaceable form of communication and a strong evoker of emotion. Pantone (the leading authority on colour) chooses a colour each year that reflects prevailing mood or sentiment, and which it predicts will feature prominently in fashion, products, design and life for the coming year. The Pantone colour of the year 2017 is ‘Greenery’.
In these most turbulent of political times when it seems as if the whole world has gone mad, the peaceful neutrality of ‘Greenery’ and the positivity which it exudes provides a life-affirming unity with the natural world which is so very needed right now. Greenery is about unity and community. The refreshing and revitalisi
ng shade of yellow-green which Pantone has chosen to be the colour of the year for 2017 represents new beginnings whilst celebrating nature’s power to restore and renew. Greenery is the colour of hopefulness and of reconnecting to nature.
Pantone Colour of the Year 2017
Echoing the sentiments of Pantone’s colour of the year for 2017, my flowerscapes fully embrace the human need to explore, experiment and reinvent. Every single one of the myriad of colours used in my Devon flower paintings are created by me; I never use colours straight from the paint tube. Each colour is like a chemical journey to which I give my absolute all; every hope, dream and wish is then poured onto the canvas.
My Magic Forest paintings celebrate the delicacy and fragility of colour in an ethereal way. Painting them is a joy. The dreamlike woodland scenes which play out upon the canvas sing songs of mystery and magic as the trees exude ancient wonder and deep calm. They take the viewer on a slightly different journey from the Devon flowerscapes for which I am perhaps best known; the illusory forests celebrate the wonder of nature and yet conceal a secret not present in my buoyantly joyful flowerscapes. Some of my flowerscape paintings, such as ‘Angel’s Garden’ and Summertime Kisses, celebrate the optimistic freshness of Greenery with their backdrop of zesty green richness. Flourishing foliage coupled with the rainbow ditsyness of delicate flowers found in my wildflower paintings signal for us to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.
Yvonne Coomber Art Events for 2017
So to embrace the Greenery theme of reawakening, positivity and forward-thinking, we look forward to the art events for the new year ahead. 2017 is looking to be a rich and diverse melting pot of inspiration, travels and experimentation. I am more excited than ever about the direction my artwork is going and am always looking to push the boundaries of my practice. From festivals and fairs, to opening our home and exclusive Solo Shows, I look forward to sharing the results with you all over the coming months.
This year promises to be as colourful as my paintings!
With love and blessings,
Yvonne xxx
