Devon Open Studios 2017
This September Mike and I are proud to once again be taking part in Devon Open Studios, which is the annual flagship event of the Devon Artist Network (DAN). This year is extra special as it marks the tenth anniversary of this most noteworthy art event in Devon, and we are delighted to be opening our home to art lovers who come from near and far to be able to witness first-hand the creativity and passion which underpins the lives of artists in Devon.
Devon Artist Network
The Devon Artist Network was founded in 2004 to promote visual arts and to create an opportunity for artists and makers in Devon. During the Devon Open Studios in September, members of the Devon Artist Network open their their studios and homes to showcase their work to the public in venues across the county. This year, Devon Open Studios takes place between 9th-24th September 2017 and there will be over 230 artists looking forward to welcoming visitors to their unique workspaces showing art and craft in Devon. There is so much to explore at this, one of the UK’s largest annual art events – from painting and printmaking, ceramics and textiles, sculpture, jewellery, photography and more- you can use the Devon Art Studios Event Guide PDF to plan your route and help you explore beautiful and unseen parts of the region along the way.
Choosing Your Perfect Painting
It is undoubtedly a big deal investing in an original work of art, it has to be true love, nothing less. It may be an immediate decision or you may need some assistance. Therefore a bespoke piece could be the answer. The Devon Open Studios event is is an ideal opportunity to discuss your requirements with me in person. I will be able to point you in the right direction for you to secure the painting you have always dreamt of. One that will melt your heart forever.
Yvonne Coomber Devon Open Studios 2017
During the Devon Open Studios I will be showcasing some of my kaleidoscopic Devon flowerscapes, landscapes and abstract pieces. During the weekend I am also delighted to be offering some older paintings. These pieces hold so many precious memories for me and have been stepping stones for my artistic journey. The work available will aim to meet even humble pockets as well as larger budgets. I will have a selection of new originals in a variety of sizes, limited edition giclee prints (framed and unframed), as well as hand-finished printed canvasses. I will also have some older pieces available at very affordable prices.
I am proud to be exhibiting alongside my gorgeous husband Mike Boyer, who will demonstrate his off-beat glimpses of ‘human-beingness’. Mike is a talented painter whose work encompasses playful interpretations dealing with memory, transformation and the unexpected. He creates narrative-based pictures in oil and mixed media which are quirky and full of humour.
Our work is so different and offers a rich feast for both eyes and heart. We love to be able to invite people into our home. Devon Open Studios is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to meet artists and ask them what inspires them, watch them at work, and sometimes even have a go themselves! People feedback the most wonderful comments, like the following quote from a lady who bought one of my canvasses:
“Yesterday, we bought a printed canvas from your gallery in Totnes…we could not resist and bought “You Make Loving Fun“. It was a very tough choice to choose which piece to buy as they are all so beautiful. In the end it was the title that swung it for me. We are a family of 5 with lots of laughter and fun in our house so it fits the bill perfectly. We have hung it today so that when we are all sitting around the dining table we can enjoy your painting. As I said to my husband, I don’t think I will ever be able to look at it without smiling!!”
It is this kind of reaction which gives me even more inspiration to continue doing what I love to do, and to offer up my Devon wildflower paintings to the world as a gift of colour and love.
Meet Artists in Their Studios
The diversity of studios which make up the Devon Open Studios event is remarkable – visitors can explore potter’s studios in meadows, painters located in medieval barns, sensory sculpture gardens by the sea and jewellery makers whose studios are a room with a view. These hidden hideaways each reveal fascinating artworks which afford visitors the opportunity to purchase affordable art directly from the artist without gallery commission. Devon Open Studios is a magical opportunity for artists in their studios in Exeter, Teignmouth, Plymouth, the South Hams, Sidmouth, Dartington and more all come together to welcome visitors from all across the UK to experience creative life in Devon, and the rich vibrant artistic communities which thrive here.
Please do come and visit, we would both love to see you and promise a house full of love, sparkle and giggles…! And if you can’t make the Devon Open Studios Event, don’t forget you can always buy art from my online art shop here.
