My New Solo Art Exhibition at Bedruthan Hotel in Cornwall
I have a deep love of Cornwall and the wild, natural landscape which is flaunted all across this beautiful county. From the honey-hued heather and native grazing ponies which dot the vast moorland, to the symphony of joy that is a sunset setting the sky on fire for as far as the eye can see… the enormous skies and kaleidoscope of colour found in Cornwall provides endless inspiration to me and I hungrily immerse myself in this joyous natural landscape whenever the opportunity takes me. Last month I spent a weekend in Cornwall celebrating its bold verve and hypnotic vivacity by attending the Port Eliot Festival. Next month I will be holding my new solo art exhibition at the Bedruthan Hotel on Cornwall’s North coast. The Yvonne Coomber Solo Exhibition at Bedruthan’s Create Art Gallery will run from 1st August at 8am until 20th August at 5pm. I will be in attendance at the Bedruthan Hotel on the 2nd and 16th August between 10am and 2pm and hope to be able to meet lots of you there!
The Scarlet and The Bedruthan
I first was requested to paint for The Scarlet Hotel nearly a decade ago, when it was first being dreamed. My work now hangs in the main reception area and I am honoured to have regularly have work showing both here and at
Bedruthan.
Each year Mike and I are privileged to spend a weekend at the Scarlet Hotel, the sister hotel of Bedruthan. Each hotel shares the ravishing cove at Mawgan Porth and this area provides much of my inspiration for seascape paintings. It’s ever-changing magical light, shifting weathers and tidal beauty make it endlessly fascinating, enchanting and deeply heart opening. This place simply makes me want to paint. In addition, the Scarlet has divine food, a wonderful spa and attentive staff and is saturated in peacefulness and beauty. It is nourishing on so many levels and we always feel recharged and rejuvenated after a stay. I am so looking forward to my solo exhibition at Bedruthan Steps and it has been a joy to create a collection inspired by this location.
Art and Design at the Bedruthan Hotel in Cornwall
Set over three floors with sweeping ocean views, a café, notable restaurant and (of course) an art gallery, the Bedruthan Hotel has an excellent reputation for hosting some of the best craft and art fairs in the Westcountry. Not only is the hotel set in an enviable location right above Mawgan Porth beach on the North Coast, but its art and interiors gallery (called Create Cornwall) is a celebration of the very finest British art and design, with a particular emphasis on the rich melting pot of creativity found in Cornwall.
The Bedruthan Hotel has celebrated art, textiles and design since the hotel was built in 1959, and the Create Cornwall Art & Design Store is a revival of a shop which the current owners’ parents ran in the 1950s and 1960s. The store in Plymouth was ahead of its time, championing both Scandinavian and Cornish contemporary art long before the rest of the world had caught on to the brilliance of mid-century modern design. I am proud to be showing my artwork at such a forward-thinking Mecca for art aficionados and hope that I might meet some of you there!
